A meeting of the National Political Bureau of PNL is scheduled for Saturday in Sibiu, where the future of the governing coalition will be discussed. Within the party, two factions have formed: one that supports Prime Minister Bolojan's strategy of withdrawing from the government and another that prefers to keep the liberals in the coalition, but with a new prime minister. Bolojan could argue that relations with PSD and UDMR have deteriorated, especially in the context of budget negotiations.
If he does not gain the necessary support, he may decide to resign before the coalition partners attempt to replace him. The tensions within the coalition are also acknowledged by the PSD leader, Sorin Grindeanu, who mentioned that the alliance is not in the best shape and that PSD will decide the future of the government after an internal consultation. Grindeanu warned that a potential exit of PNL from the government could lead to early elections.
