PNL MEP Siegfried Mureșan, the PNL, USR, UDMR proposal for prime minister, stated on Tuesday morning at Digi24 that "if we were to have early elections, they would be in the fall of this year," emphasizing that if the political deadlock cannot be overcome, "returning to the people is a natural matter."
He said that early elections are not unusual in the European Union, considering that ten of the 27 member states have held such elections in the last five years.
Mureșan stated that, in the absence of a political solution, returning to the vote is a legitimate option.
"Early elections are a democratic mechanism for situations where a political crisis can no longer be overcome by existing parliamentary formulas," Mureșan wrote on his Facebook page.
The liberal mentioned that, in the absence of resolving the crisis, early elections could take place in the fall of this year, between September and December.
He also emphasized that it is necessary to accelerate the process of appointing a prime minister, considering that approximately 70 days have passed since the fall of the government.
Moreover, the president of PNL, Ilie Bolojan, also said on Monday evening that "if wisdom and responsibility are not found to get out of this situation," "then it will obviously not be possible to eliminate such an analysis regarding the organization of elections."
