Dumitru Chisăliță, the president of the Intelligent Energy Association, emphasized that Romania invests in energy storage systems not to ensure lower prices or energy security, but to profit from the energy chaos and import commissions. Chisăliță believes that storage has been addressed too late and in a fragmented manner, without being integrated into the development of critical infrastructure. Although renewable capacities have increased, essential elements for a functional system, such as storage and flexibility, have lagged behind. He warns that without a coherent strategy, Romania risks importing inferior quality batteries, generating a new profit industry at the expense of energy disorder. Chisăliță proposes that storage should be used to reduce volatility and costs, not just to create commercial opportunities. Without proper planning, storage could become a source of speculative gains, instead of contributing to the stability and efficiency of the energy system.
