Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that Romania will implement sanctions against Lukoil, in accordance with the decisions adopted by the United States and the European Union. Lukoil's refinery is under maintenance, and evaluations show that there are sufficient fuel stocks to maintain supply. Bolojan mentioned that the Lukoil gas station network has a negotiation deadline until December 13, having a significant share in Romania.
The government is working on a regulatory act to establish its own sanctions mechanism, which will be published soon. This will allow Romania to act in accordance with EU decisions, taking into account the realities of the market. Additionally, the Prime Minister assured that the measures will protect RomGaz from the impact of sanctions on collaboration with Lukoil in the Black Sea. The sanctions imposed by the US target Lukoil and Rosneft and were announced on October 22, aiming to pressure Russia to stop the war in Ukraine.
