Marius Lazurca, presidential advisor: "What seems to be an expense, in relation to Ukraine, is actually an investment. What is relevant is that Romania continues to be safe in relation to Russian aggression."

The presidential advisor for national security, Marius Lazurca, emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership signed between Romania and Ukraine, stating that it marks the overcoming of a period of distrust and the opening towards closer collaboration. Lazurca highlighted that the financial aid provided to Ukraine does not represent an expense, but an investment in Romania's security. He stated that, in the event that Ukraine were to fall, Romania would regret not having acted more decisively. The signed document is described as an "aspirational document" that aims to foster a more ambitious and creative relationship between the two states. Lazurca dismissed criticisms regarding the aid given to Ukraine, emphasizing that it contributes to Romania's own security in the face of Russian aggression.

"What seems to be an expense, in relation to Ukraine, is actually an investment. Some figures were recently made public following a parliamentary inquiry addressed to the Ministry of Finance, amounting to about 8 billion lei. The way the calculation was made and how this figure was reached escapes me. In my opinion, it is irrelevant how Romania decided to invest financial resources not only in relation to Ukraine. What is relevant is that Romania continues to be secure in relation to Russian aggression which, if Ukraine were to fall - and perhaps, in the absence of a collective effort to assist it, Ukraine would have fallen - if Ukraine were to fall, I believe we would have regretted not having done more to assist it. Undoubtedly, it would have cost us more," said Marius Lazurca.
