Presidential adviser Marius Lazurca stated in an interview with the Daily Signal that Romania and the United States must intensify their cooperation and undertake more ambitious commitments in sectors essential to both countries. The official is in the United States for discussions with American counterparts about the future of the bilateral strategic relationship.
Lazurca argued that the partnership between Romania and the United States has produced significant benefits for both sides, particularly in the areas of defense and security. He pointed out, however, that the relationship has not reached the same level economically, and that this asymmetry must be corrected.
The presidential adviser also said that Donald Trump was right when he stated that European states must assume greater responsibility for their own security. In his view, Romania must convey to its American partners that it is prepared to contribute more to strengthening transatlantic cooperation.
Lazurca also cited the strong pro-American sentiment in Romania, considering that it provides a solid foundation for expanding economic, political, and security relations between the two countries.
“Romanians expect their leaders to be aligned with the United States and to help the United States whenever possible,” Lazurca stated.
