The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Ţoiu, announced that she had a phone conversation with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrii Sibiha, to discuss the implications of the extremely low level of the Danube on nuclear energy production in Romania.

This discussion was part of the coordinated efforts of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, aimed at maintaining energy supplies from Ukraine, especially during peak hours. Romania has declared a state of alert in the energy market due to severe drought, which has led to the preventive shutdown of a reactor at the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant.

Oana Ţoiu emphasized the importance of interconnecting the energy networks between the two countries, mentioning that a 400 kV high-voltage power line was agreed upon in May. The Romanian government is working on technical solutions to redirect water to the reactors and manage the current energy crisis.
