Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete stated on Tuesday that the image of the entire Social Democratic Party should not be associated with the behavior of certain people who attended a christening party held in Timișoara over the weekend. The event was hosted by Alfred Simonis, president of the Timiș County Council, who had his third child christened.
Rogobete said that the appearance of several people in a “tabloid-style public narrative” does not represent the conduct of the entire party and emphasized that holding public office entails maintaining dignity in all forms of conduct.
“I believe it is important for people to understand that, in general, it is best not to generalize. The fact that one, two, or three people appeared, who certainly opened up a tabloid-style public narrative at the national level, does not mean that we all have the same... it does not mean that the entire Social Democratic Party has this image, because that is not fair,” the Health Minister stated.
The statements were made at the launch of the campaign to build Romania’s first Integrated University Clinic for Diabetes, Nutrition, and Metabolic Diseases for Children, a project carried out together with CF2 Clinical Hospital and the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
The minister also announced that he aims to have another 40 medicines added to the list of reimbursed drugs by the end of December. He specified that he is working with the responsible institutions to improve patients’ access to treatment.
Images from the event generated online comments about luxury and opulence. Sorina Docuz, the partner of former Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, wore a gray dress accessorized with fur that internet users said might be chinchilla and could cost several tens of thousands of lei. Al Bano and Theo Rose performed at the party.
