PNL MEP Rareș Bogdan said that 25 liberals currently support the designated government led by Luca Niculescu, while the number of lawmakers expected to vote for the executive could rise to 27–28. He made the statement on Friday on Antena 3, amid negotiations over the formation of the new government.
“Today, Friday, when we met, there are 25 of us, and there are another 3–4 people who are trying; they have come around. (…) It is possible that we could reach 27–28,” Rareș Bogdan said, according to News.ro.
The liberal expressed his belief that, ultimately, all PNL lawmakers will vote for the Niculescu Government. He argued that the party must assume responsibility and take into account the interests of citizens and Romanian companies.
Rareș Bogdan invoked the PNL’s role at important moments in Romania’s history and said that the party should be part of the future government, including in the context of Romania’s current geopolitical situation.
Designated Prime Minister Luca Niculescu announced that he intends to submit the government program and the list of ministers to Parliament on Thursday. The procedure first provides for hearings of the nominees in parliamentary committees, followed by the investiture vote. Niculescu described the talks with the parties as good and said he was optimistic.
