The Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, stated that, in the context of Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports on the Danube, Romania is conducting military analyses to assess the implications for national security. He explained that some Russian drones are difficult to detect by radars due to their absorbent composition and the terrain's shape, which can reflect radar waves. Miruță mentioned that, although the targets are in Ukraine, the distance from Romania is small, and a potential crossing of the Danube could happen quickly. In this context, it is being evaluated whether fighter jets need to be deployed to respond to threats. Additionally, General Gheorghiță Vlad announced that Romania will soon introduce the American anti-drone system MEROPS, with teams already trained to operate it.
