Radu Marinescu, the Minister of Justice, commented on the Constitutional Court's decision to reject the magistrates' pension reform project, emphasizing that this was a rejection on form, not on substance. He stressed the necessity of respecting the rule of law and constitutionality in future legislative initiatives. Marinescu mentioned that, although the opinion of the Superior Council of Magistracy was requested, the Ministry of Justice did not take care of obtaining it. The draft law provided for limiting magistrates' pensions to 70% of the last net salary and setting the retirement age at 65, in contrast to the current legislation. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan suggested that he might resign if the project is rejected, highlighting its importance for the legitimacy of the government.
