The former Minister of Labor, Marius Budăi, publicly reacted on the topic of the minimum wage, issuing a direct warning to Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. The social democrat argues that the law leaves no room for interpretation.

"According to the current legislation, Mr. Prime Minister Bolojan is obliged to raise the minimum wage!

Therefore, his opinions on this subject are irrelevant in the face of the legal obligation. He is probably thinking about a derogation from the law through an emergency ordinance. My advice is not to play with fire! Such an ordinance could fail in Parliament. I personally will vote against any derogation from the Minimum Wage Law. And I believe that many colleagues from PSD think the same!

Under the current law, the minimum wage must be between 47% and 52% of the average gross salary in the economy, which in October reached 9,152 lei. So for 2026, the gross minimum wage should be set somewhere between 4,300 and 4,760 lei. This is to let those from USR know that the minimum wage is not set arbitrarily, as Mr. Minister Miruță from the Economy claimed absurdly.

And yes, we take into account the business environment. That is why the tax exemption for the first 300 lei of the minimum wage must be maintained.

Solutions exist. You just need to get out of demagoguery!" writes the social democrat on Facebook.
