PSD President Sorin Grindeanu announced Wednesday evening that the party will be part of the Luca Niculescu Government, but participation is conditional on compliance with a set of ten measures. Among the announced conditions is maintaining the commitment not to introduce new taxes for the business sector.
Grindeanu justified the decision by the need to quickly form a functional government, amid economic pressures and administrative emergencies. He argued that Romania needs solutions for paying healthcare expenses and salaries and warned that prolonging the political crisis could worsen the economic situation.
The PSD leader spoke about the risk of reduced economic activity, increased financing costs, a diminished foreign-exchange reserve, and depreciation of the exchange rate. In his view, the lack of firm measures could lead to a liquidity crisis and approximately 50,000 additional unemployed people.
The PSD decision comes after negotiations on forming the new executive. In his statement, Sorin Grindeanu did not present the list of Social Democratic ministers; it is to be finalized and communicated later. The party stated that its support for the government is linked to compliance with the agreed conditions.
Sorin Grindeanu also announced that the Social Democratic group had already prepared a list of 11 ministers, which it is to send to Victoria Palace:
- deputy prime minister, Minister of Internal Affairs- Marian Neacșu
- Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development– Florin Barbu
