PSD accuses USR of “limitless hypocrisy” following criticism directed at Marian Neacșu, Minister of the Interior and deputy prime minister in the Cabinet led by Luca Niculescu. The Social Democrats say the attacks concern a conviction received in 2016, for which automatic rehabilitation would have taken effect, and that the official’s criminal record is currently clear.
In a message published on Facebook on Wednesday, PSD states that Neacșu did not hold any public office between 2016 and 2019 and that his legal status is confirmed, among other things, by the reasoning behind Constitutional Court Decision No. 24 of January 22, 2020. The party claims that the referral underlying the decision was also submitted by USR.
PSD further alleges that USR lawmakers had previously voted for Marian Neacșu’s appointment to the Government and had worked with him during the governing period. The Social Democrats also mention Ilie Bolojan, who they say publicly thanked Neacșu at the time of his resignation.
In the same message, PSD accuses USR of applying double standards and refers to Dominic Fritz, regarding whom it says that the High Court of Cassation and Justice definitively confirmed the existence of an administrative conflict of interest. USR has not provided a response to PSD’s accusations in the information presented.
