During the negotiations at the Victoria Palace, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan emphasized that increasing the minimum wage could protect the purchasing power of employees with low incomes, but it would also bring negative effects, such as fueling inflation and increasing pressure on small businesses. This could lead to job losses in sectors such as HORECA and the furniture industry.
Representatives of employers argued for maintaining the minimum wage at the current level of 4050 lei, citing a 76% increase over the last four years, which exceeds sustainable economic dynamics. Trade unions, on the other hand, advocated for an increase, considering it essential for protecting purchasing power. The Prime Minister promised that all arguments would be analyzed, and a decision would be made by Christmas. Other topics were also discussed, such as the quota of foreign workers and legislative changes in the field of copyright. The leader of Cartel Alfa, Bogdan Hossu, criticized the perception that the Prime Minister favors companies to the detriment of employees and announced possible protests.
