The leader of the parliamentary group of national minorities, Varujan Pambuccian, asked President Nicușor Dan to postpone the appointment of the prime minister

Varujan Pambuccian, leader of the parliamentary group representing national minorities, asked President Nicușor Dan on Thursday, during consultations at Cotroceni Palace, to postpone appointing the prime minister, arguing that there is currently no majority in Parliament to form a government.

Pambuccian said that Romania is in the same situation as it was three or four months ago and that the main issue is not the person who would take the position of prime minister, but the lack of parliamentary support. In his view, without a majority, no governing formula can break the current political deadlock.

The leader of the minorities warned that Romania is approaching an “apotheotic finale” to the crisis and rejected the idea that early parliamentary elections would resolve the situation. He stressed that the priority is to form a stable and functional governing arrangement that would allow the deadlock to be overcome.

Pambuccian also said that the majority must result from the actual votes of parliamentarians, not merely from agreements between party leaders. He also warned of the risk that certain negotiating conditions could lead to governance that would undermine democratic functioning.
