The PACE – First Romania parliamentary group was dissolved on Wednesday in the Senate after Senator Nadia Cerva announced that she was leaving the political formation and would serve as an unaffiliated senator. Cerva said the decision took effect the same day and apologized to USR and AUR lawmakers for a speech previously delivered by her colleague, Ninel Peia.
However, the group’s dissolution could be temporary. Subsequently, Senator Dumitru Manea, a member of S.O.S. Romania, announced that he was joining the group. Through this affiliation, the political formation once again reached the minimum number of seven members required for a parliamentary group to exist in the Senate.
Senator Clement Sava requested the re-establishment of the PACE – First Romania group. Senate President Mircea Abrudean said, following a recommendation by PSD Senator Liviu Mazilu, that the request would be reviewed at the meeting of the Standing Bureau after the plenary session ends.
The Standing Bureau is expected to verify whether the regulatory conditions for reconstituting the parliamentary group have been met. Until an official decision is adopted, Nadia Cerva remains an unaffiliated senator, while the group’s status is under review.
