The airport in Oradea is facing an alarming situation, where some flights have recorded more crew members than passengers. For example, a flight operated by LOT Polish Airlines to Warsaw had only 2 passengers, while the aircraft was accompanied by 4 crew members. These flights are subsidized from public funds by the Bihor County Council, being operated as a mandatory public service. The airport director, Răzvan Horga, mentioned that January is usually weak in terms of occupancy rates, but the recent situation is considered an anomaly. Additionally, the president of the Cluj County Council, Alin Tișe, criticized the subsidization of flights without traffic potential, emphasizing that other airports in the country, such as the one in Cluj, have seen a steady increase in the number of passengers.
