President Nicușor Dan announced that there will be no announcement regarding the new prime minister after the scheduled consultations on Monday at Cotroceni with parliamentary parties. He emphasized that the essential question for all parties will be identifying the governmental majority capable of supporting a new government.
What Nicușor Dan says about a renomination of Ilie Bolojan
Asked whether there might be a renomination of Ilie Bolojan at the head of a new government, the president insisted that he does not want to appoint a government that could generate a new political crisis.
"I will not give specific answers, but I will only give general answers, and a general answer is that I would not want to appoint a government that would create another crisis," said Nicușor Dan.
On Monday, consultations at Cotroceni, but without an announcement regarding a possible new government
He also emphasized the need for a pro-Western majority in the context of discussions about possible governance scenarios, including a PSD-UDMR government with a technocrat prime minister. Consultations with the 8 parliamentary groups will take place on May 18, 2026, according to a statement from the Presidential Administration.
"We will have discussions on Monday, according to the Constitution. Probably we will also have discussions on Tuesday or Wednesday with other people in Parliament who are not currently represented by parliamentary parties. We are somehow in the course of the process. There will be no announcement on Monday evening. The most important thing and my request for all parties coming to consultations is, the first thing I will ask, what will be the majority? And whether we are talking about a complete government, a minority government, or a technocrat government, for each of the parties coming on Monday to Cotroceni, what is the majority they propose, that is the essential question. From there, the discussion will begin," said the president after participating at the end of the visit to BSDA 2026.
