President Nicușor Dan stated that he does not rule out the possibility of early elections: "It is not something I desire"

The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, stated that he does not rule out the possibility of early elections, but emphasizes that it is not a scenario he desires.

President Dan explained that, at present, it is very unlikely that early elections will take place, as they would not significantly change the composition of Parliament. He mentioned that discussions on this topic have been minimal and that, in the case of elections, the parties would attack each other, which would lead to a situation similar to the current one.

“This scenario has been discussed extremely, extremely little. It is not something I wish for. I do not rule it out. It is not something I desire and I believe it is very unlikely at this moment, because it would make no sense. We would be pretty much in the same situation, plus another three, four months of elections in which the parties, logically and legitimately, would attack each other and after that we would ask them to govern together.”

Nicușor Dan specified that early elections could only be justified in the case of a prolonged deadlock in forming a government, but he believes that there are still resources to find a solution that would ensure a majority in Parliament.
