The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, has challenged at the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) a recently adopted amendment by Parliament, submitted by AUR to the ANI Law, which imposes the obligation for the life partners of dignitaries to publish their wealth and interest declarations. The amendment, supported by PSD, targets spouses or individuals with similar relationships to dignitaries, generating controversy among parliamentarians.
During the debates, it was speculated that the amendment was designed to target the president's partner, Mirabela Grădinaru, who published her declarations to avoid speculation. USR and PNL also contested the amendment, arguing that it cannot be applied and that there are no mechanisms to verify the relationships of dignitaries. In the event that the CCR declares the law constitutional, it can be promulgated; otherwise, the situation can be remedied by August 31, to avoid affecting the funds from PNRR.
