The Vice President of the European Parliament, Nicu Ştefănuţă, stated on Wednesday that the 281 votes for the motion of censure reflect a "Georgescu" coalition, which could have a good chance of suspending the president. He emphasizes that Nicuşor Dan will not withstand such a suspension, comparing him to Traian Băsescu.
"Yes, that guy whom it seems politicians have forgotten, but people have not. Why a Georgescu coalition? Because all the votes came from his area. They came from some who gave him votes to reach the second round (PSD). Others who support him directly (AUR). And others who were born because of Georgescu (POT, PACE)"
Ştefănuţă explains that the votes came from various sources, including supporters of PSD and AUR, and that voter frustration over Georgescu's unfulfilled promises persists.
He warns that the dismissal of the Bolojan Government could encourage Parliament to attempt a suspension of the president, which could change the power dynamics in Romania. Ştefănuţă concludes with a call for civic awareness, emphasizing the importance of Parliament in the political change process. The Bolojan Government was dismissed on Tuesday through a motion of censure.
