On Friday, at the Cotroceni Palace, negotiations are taking place on the project of the Unified Salary Law, coordinated by presidential advisor Radu Burnete, with the participation of leaders from PSD, PNL, and USR, as well as the interim Minister of Labor, Dragoș Pîslaru. The meeting starts at 12:00, and Pîslaru will present the new salary scales negotiated with the European Commission.
Romania must meet the milestones in the PNRR by August 31, 2026, to access 4.5 billion euros, and the Salary Law is essential for obtaining 770 million euros.
Unions are extremely dissatisfied with the project, considering it non-transparent and unfair. PSD has announced that it will not vote for a law that could bring inequity, and union leaders are threatening strikes. The law is supposed to come into effect on January 1, 2027, but the current form of the law has not been officially presented, generating controversy and protests among public sector employees.
