Mugur Isărescu, the governor of the National Bank of Romania, stated on Tuesday that he does not consider a technocratic prime minister to be a viable solution for the current political crisis. Isărescu, who himself was a technocratic prime minister, emphasized that during that period he felt he was talking to himself and that he did not have the necessary support. He highlighted the need for a prime minister to have a clear vision of the political situation, having "eyes in front and in the back" to identify potential betrayals.

Additionally, Isărescu mentioned that a technocratic prime minister must have credibility and be known by those around to be able to act effectively. In the current context, President Nicușor Dan has had discussions with political parties to find a solution, considering the appointment of Delia Velculescu, deputy director at the IMF, as a technocratic prime minister.

However, the parties rejected this idea, preferring a political prime minister. Isărescu has been the governor of the BNR since 1990 and held the position of technocratic prime minister between 1999 and 2000, later returning to lead the BNR.
