Mircea Abrudean, the president of the Senate, stated that he has not had discussions with President Nicușor Dan regarding the appointment of a new director of the SRI, a position that has been vacant for almost three years.
In an interview on Prima TV, Abrudean emphasized that the speculations in the public space are not appropriate and that he is focused on strengthening national security. He also mentioned that the appointments will be validated in Parliament and that it is important to finalize this process as soon as possible. Regarding a potential proposal to lead the SRI, Abrudean acknowledged that he would not refuse such an offer, considering it an important mission for the country. He reiterated that, although there is no discussion of such an appointment at present, it would not be hypocritical to say that he would not accept. This position was similar to the one expressed earlier in February, when he denied concrete discussions but left open the possibility of future acceptance.
