President Nicușor Dan presented the New National Defense Strategy, which sparked reactions in the political environment, including a detailed analysis from former Minister of Defense, Mihai Fifor. He emphasizes that the document introduces the concept of "solidarity independence," which redefines Romania's sovereignty in a context of strategic interdependence.

The former minister explains that, in the current context, Romania maintains its decision-making autonomy, but also maximizes strategic efficiency through multilateral commitments. The war in Ukraine and instability in the Black Sea region highlight the limits of unilateral actions, and the strategy suggests that independence is strengthened by belonging to cooperation structures. Regarding NATO, "solidarity independence" is seen as a framework for deterrence and collective defense, with the Alliance being considered a multiplier of Romania's sovereignty.

Fifor's analysis also emphasizes the integration of European strategic autonomy in complementarity with Euro-Atlantic commitments, avoiding interpretations that oppose them. This conceptual repositioning is considered legitimate in the current geopolitical context, characterized by hybrid and cyber threats.
