Marius Lulea, one of the founders of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians, is no longer a member of the party after allegedly failing to pay his dues for more than a year. The information was confirmed on Tuesday by AUR senators’ leader, Petrișor Peiu, at Parliament.
“As far as I understand from my colleagues at the party’s General Secretariat, it appears that he did not pay his dues for more than a year and, for this reason, he is no longer a member of the party,” Peiu said. The senator specified that he was not involved in Lulea’s expulsion and that the situation would be the result of applying a provision in the organization’s statutes.
Cristina Dumitrescu, an AUR senator, explained that failure to pay dues automatically results in the loss of membership status. According to her, the party is not required to send a notification to people who have stopped paying their dues, since the statutes provide that they are no longer members “by operation of law.”
