Ludovic Orban, former presidential advisor, stated that he advised Nicușor Dan not to position himself in the campaign for the mayoral elections of Bucharest. However, two days after Dan announced that he would not get involved, the president was present at the launch of Cătălin Drulă's candidacy. Orban emphasized that supporting a candidate could strain the coalition and could make the president vulnerable in the campaign. He mentioned that Drulă had no real chances of winning, according to the polls, and argued that Ciprian Ciucu would have been a better choice due to his administrative skills. In the end, Drulă finished fourth in the December 7 election.
