Designated Prime Minister Luca Niculescu said Monday evening, on Antena 3, that no one in the Romanian state had given him guarantees that the Executive he will propose would receive Parliament’s vote of confidence. He said he would take all necessary steps to form the Government, but the process depends on negotiations with the parties and the lawmakers’ vote.
Niculescu explained that he was designated by the president at a difficult time and accepted the mandate, although he has no certainty that he will succeed in securing legislative support. The designated prime minister nevertheless believes that the current situation could increase the chances of a favorable vote.
In his view, the economic and social crisis, as well as the prolongation of the political crisis, are placing additional pressure on the parties. Niculescu argued that the political formations must move beyond their “red lines” and show greater flexibility.
He mentioned that some parties had already expressed their willingness to vote for a Government and called for an agreement based on shared principles and objectives. The designated prime minister cited historical examples from other countries, where formations in conflict managed to reach compromises during times of crisis.
