Kelemen Hunor, the president of UDMR, criticized, in an interview on Prima TV, the lack of reform in the intelligence services in Romania, emphasizing that there is no adequate parliamentary control, similar to that in consolidated democracies. He urged President Nicușor Dan to initiate a comprehensive reform of the services, based on the models from the USA or Germany, to ensure more effective civilian oversight. Hunor mentioned that, although there have been changes in recent decades, the services do not operate as civilian institutions and that reports are not debated in Parliament.

He discussed the necessity of appointing leaders capable of radically reforming SRI, emphasizing the importance of a new attitude and perspective. He also confirmed that discussions have taken place regarding possible appointments to the leadership of SRI and SIE, but he stressed that it is essential for the president to find a person capable of implementing these reforms. Hunor reiterated that, although the president proposes the heads of the services, the appointments require the approval of Parliament, which involves negotiations with the parties in the governing coalition.
