Illegal migration was discussed intensively at the JHA Council, with a focus on increasing pressure on EU member states

Cătălin Predoiu emphasized that Romania is strengthening its borders to counter illegal migration. It was also mentioned that illegal migration is a major concern and is the result of organized crime. In 2023, 19,793 cases of illegal migration were detected at the state border, 16.5% more than in 2022.
