General (r) Ștefan Dănilă, former chief of the General Staff of the Romanian Army, commented on the reduction of American troops in Romania, describing it as a "surprise announced in the spring." Although the operational impact is not significant, he emphasizes that the strategic message is serious, considering the unpredictability of the Trump Administration's decisions and the internal political situation in Romania.
Dănilă compares the current state of uncertainty to that of 1939-1940, when regional security was also tense. The Ministry of National Defense confirmed that Romania and its allies were informed about the resizing of American troops, mentioning that approximately one thousand soldiers will remain deployed in the country, including at the base in Mihail Kogălniceanu.
