The designated Prime Minister of Romania, Eugen Tomac, is in a difficult situation, having only four days to form a government, after the National Liberal Party refused to support him, writes POLITICO.

Tomac, a Member of the European Parliament from the Renew Europe Group, was appointed by President Nicușor Dan to create a technocratic government, following the dissolution of the center coalition. The PNL stated that the proposed solution does not have the necessary political support, accusing it of being a "facade formula" to spare the Social Democratic Party from responsibility.

"Today, the issue is not who teaches lessons to whom. The issue is whether we can get out of the deadlock and provide the country with a functional government, stability, and a clear direction," Tomac stated in response to the National Liberal Party's decision on Thursday.

If Romania does not finalize key reforms by August, it risks losing 11 billion euros from EU funds, and if public finances are not brought under control soon, analysts fear that a downgrade in credit rating could follow shortly - POLITICO shows.
