The former Minister of Tourism, Elena Udrea, stated on Friday that the funding for Siegfried Mureșan's campaign in the 2014 European Parliament elections was provided by Gheorghe Ștefan, known as 'Pinalty', and that the money came from the famous Microsoft case. In a Facebook post, Udrea commented on Mureșan's nomination for the position of Prime Minister by PNL, USR, and UDMR, stating that she does not regret the decision to promote him in the past.

She emphasized that she has been consistent with her choices, mentioning that she placed Mureșan in second place on the PMP list for the European Parliament elections. Udrea clarified that her choice was not influenced by BND or LGBTQ, but by Elena Băsescu and the funding provided by Gheorghe Ștefan. This statement sparked controversy and brought back into discussion the connections between politics and controversial businesses.
