Daniel David, former Minister of Education and current rector of Babeș-Bolyai University, has expressed severe criticism of the current form of the unified salary law, considering that it does not respect the commitments made to teachers and researchers. He states that education and research are essential for the development of society and that salaries should reflect this importance. David emphasizes that the temporary solutions applied in the past have not resolved the fundamental problems of the system, and hourly pay in pre-university education should only be used in exceptional situations. He also proposes that salaries in education should be close to those in health and that researchers' salaries should be equivalent to those in education. Despite the increase in the education budget, David believes that it does not cover the assumed objectives and warns current decision-makers that the lack of competitive salaries will lead employees to seek alternative solutions to supplement their income.
