The leader of the UDMR deputies, Csoma Botond, claims that the Government proposed by Siegfried Mureșan does not have the 233 votes necessary for investiture and will fail in the vote scheduled for the following day. The statement was made on Antena 3 CNN, after the PSD announced that it would not support the Executive.
“The reality is that at this moment we do not have the 233 votes, we do not have a majority. This decision by those from the PSD, that they will not vote for the Government, means that the Government will fail tomorrow’s vote,” declared Csoma Botond.
In the event of a failure, the UDMR leader believes that President Nicușor Dan will not make a new nomination and rules out, at this moment, the scenario of snap elections. Among the options being discussed is the formation of a government around the PSD, with Sorin Grindeanu or another candidate for the position of prime minister.
The UDMR could support such an Executive if the parliamentary arithmetic allows a majority to be obtained without the votes of AUR and SOS România. Csoma Botond specified that these represent the formation’s red line and that the UDMR will not examine individually any possible transfers of parliamentarians originating from the two parties. He emphasized that Romania needs a government with full powers.
