Cristian Bușoi, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy: "Strictly from the shutdown of Cernavodă 2, we will not reach a blackout situation. People need to stay calm."

The shutdown of the second reactor of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant does not put Romania at risk of a nationwide power outage, says Cristian Buşoi, the state secretary in the Ministry of Energy. 

"Theoretically, only if we have massive wildfires due to the heatwave or, God forbid, if someone thinks inappropriately and in an inappropriate place to set fire to agricultural waste and reach the Transelectrica lines, from there a reaction could be triggered that may be reversible, but it lasts until it is repaired. Otherwise, strictly from the shutdown of Cernavodă 2, we will not reach a blackout situation. It is clear that we have many other solutions before destabilizing the national system and in this regard, the Government Decision and the Transelectrica regulation were aimed at reducing this risk, we are talking about voluntary consumption reduction and, obviously, manual disconnection, which I really do not see as possible for large consumers. From this point of view, people need to stay calm," Cristian Buşoi stated on Tuesday evening during a phone intervention on TVR Info.
