Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy Cristian Bușoi assures Romanians that they will not receive double electricity bills for the same consumption next winter and spring. The official says that the data management systems used by suppliers prevent such billing errors.
Bușoi explained that some of the higher bills during the summer months were caused, in certain cases, by increased consumption amid high temperatures and longer use of air-conditioning units. “For the same consumption, we cannot speak of double bills,” the secretary of state said.
According to the simulations he presented, final bills could increase by approximately 20–22% next winter and spring, even if the same level of consumption is maintained. The estimates depend on price developments in international markets and on the return of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant to the National Energy System.
The plant is currently not operating because of the Danube’s low flow rate. Bușoi said that, for the time being, there is no deadline for bringing it back online. Energy suppliers’ representatives have their own commercial data and simulations, but these have not been made public.
