Eleven years after the assassination of Boris Nemtsov, an important opponent of Vladimir Putin, Romania's representative in Russia, Cristian Istrate, participated in a commemoration ceremony on the Bolshoi Moskvoretski bridge, where the tragedy took place. Ambassadors from several European countries, including the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, laid flowers at the site of the tragedy, thus honoring the memory of the politician. Journalists were also present at the event, and the police checked the participants' passports, without preventing the laying of flowers. Although no passersby were observed on the bridge, the authorities used megaphones to urge people not to block traffic. Nemtsov was shot in the back, a few hundred meters from the Kremlin, an act that sparked international reactions.
