Cătălin Predoiu resigned on Wednesday from the position of first vice-president of PNL, but not from the party, according to sources within the party.
This decision was made in the context in which the leadership of PNL met at Parliament to discuss the convening of a Congress, where it is intended to sanction those who supported the government of the designated Prime Minister Adrian Veștea.
Predoiu stated that the solution to overcome the political impasse is a reasonable compromise, through the installation of a Veștea government and the restoration of the Coalition with a deadline until June 2027.
He emphasized that this approach does not represent an abdication from previous decisions, but a necessary adaptation to the current context, which requires the urgent formation of a political government. Predoiu argued that, in opposition, PNL can remain for over a year, after it will have corrected the political situation.
