Constantin Toma criticizes Sorin Grindeanu’s promises regarding the indexation of pensions and salaries

The mayor of the municipality of Buzău, Constantin Toma, criticizes the promises made by PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu regarding the indexation of pensions and salaries in line with the inflation rate, arguing that they are not backed by clear sources of funding. Toma says that the measures would require approximately 27 billion lei, that is, more than 5 billion euros, money that would have to be borrowed.

The reaction comes after Sorin Grindeanu said Monday evening, on Antena 3 CNN, that pensions and salaries must be indexed next year, considering it mandatory given that the population’s “level of affordability” would have reached a critical point. The PSD leader also argued that early elections represent a constitutional scenario, although an undesirable one.

Constantin Toma describes these statements as populist promises and calls for savings at the administrative level, as well as investments in the real economy. He argues that Romania needs an administrative-territorial reform, including a reduction in the number of positions, not merely formal reorganizations.

The mayor of Buzău believes that early elections could put an end to the political crisis generated by the lack of a government with full powers.
