Traian Băsescu criticizes Nicușor Dan's request regarding votes for the prime minister: "It is outside the Constitution because it imposes a condition that the Constitution does not provide for."

Traian Băsescu, former president of Romania, criticized on Wednesday, at B1 TV, the request of President Nicușor Dan for political parties to present a candidate for the position of prime minister who already has 233 votes secured in Parliament, arguing that such a condition is not provided for by the Constitution.

Băsescu stated that the current Constitution does not allow the president to transfer the responsibility of appointing a prime minister to the parties, emphasizing that Nicușor Dan is asking the parties to guarantee the existence of 233 votes before the vote in Parliament. The former president declared that this request is "ridiculous," mentioning that political guarantees can only be obtained after the Parliament's vote.

Băsescu added that Nicușor Dan should respect constitutional procedures and appoint a candidate who can ensure the necessary support within the timeframe provided by law.
