The leader of the AUR senators, Petrișor Peiu, explained on Digi24 that the blockage in the joint budget committees occurred because, despite the initial discussions with the social democrats, the two parties were supposed to support each other's amendments, Sorin Grindeanu wanted to push only his own changes to the budget law project.
Thus, the understanding was that AUR would support the PSD amendment regarding the exemption from CASS, while the social democrats were supposed to vote for AUR's amendments regarding the reinstatement of scholarships for students and pupils, as well as the reinstatement of the doctoral grant.
We remind that at the time of the vote for the budget increase of the Ministry of Labor by 1.1 billion lei, AUR chose not to vote, causing a procedural blockage and the rejection of the amendment.
The social democrats accused AUR of absence, although they were present in the hall. Peiu emphasized that AUR will continue to support its own amendments, despite the misunderstandings with PSD, which did not support AUR's proposals regarding student scholarships and the doctoral grant. This situation generated confusion and tensions between the two parties, which initially seemed to collaborate.
