Alexandru Stoica, proposed for the position of Minister of Development, Public Works and Administration in the future Government led by Luca Niculescu, announces that he will immediately order an audit at the ministry and its subordinate institutions after taking office. The review will cover payment obligations, the status of investments, and the causes of delays, with the results to be made public.
Stoica says that local administrations need predictability regarding payment for completed works and the financing of future projects. Among the announced priorities are the continuation of the more than 800 projects contracted through the National Investment Company and the modernization of more than 1,000 kilometers of unpaved county roads.
The proposed program also includes “START Administrative Reform,” through which the legal framework for the voluntary association and merger of administrative-territorial units would be created. Small town halls that choose to share specialists and services could receive support for preparing projects and resolving citizens’ requests.
The 429 administrative-territorial units with no more than 1,500 inhabitants would receive priority for funding if they opt for a merger. Stoica stated that he would discuss the measures with the designated prime minister and the future members of the Government. The Cabinet is scheduled to be put to a vote in Parliament on Tuesday, October 20, at 14:00.
