PNL deputy Alexandru Muraru criticized President Nicușor Dan after the Standard & Poor’s agency maintained Romania’s sovereign rating, arguing that the head of state should have thanked Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan for the measures that helped Romania avoid being downgraded to “junk” status.
The liberal’s reaction came after a message from Nicușor Dan, who said that S&P’s decision confirms Romania is a reliable investment partner and that the economy is showing signs of stability. The president stressed, however, that maintaining the rating is not a reason to relax.
In a Facebook post, Alexandru Muraru said the presidential message should have begun with a thank-you addressed to Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. The deputy argued that Romania was kept away from a “junk” rating despite what he described as “sabotage” coming from the PSD and AUR.
Muraru accused Nicușor Dan of attributing the result to “society as a whole” and “our responsibility,” without sufficiently highlighting the government’s role. The liberal also criticized the alleged political cooperation between the president and the PSD, stating that Romania might have received prospects for an upgrade.
In the same post, the PNL deputy referred to reactions following a photo posted by Nicușor Dan on the X platform alongside the president of the United States. Muraru attributed these reactions to alleged communication and protocol blunders.
