<p>The formal decision on Romania and Bulgaria's full accession to the Schengen area is to be taken by the Council of the European Union. Ursula von der Leyen underlined the positive outcome of the informal talks in Budapest and suggested that the two countries could fully join Schengen from January 1, 2025. She underlined the importance of a strong Schengen and welcomed progress in this regard.
