On the occasion of Independence Day, Ursula von der Leyen sent a congratulatory message to the Republic of Moldova and President Maia Sandu, highlighting the democratic spirit and the desire for freedom of the Moldovan people. At the event in Chișinău, where European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz are expected, the commitment of the European Union to Moldova's European integration is emphasized, which became a candidate country in 2022 and began accession negotiations in 2024.
