Two Romanian citizens are charged in Hungary with smuggling more than eight tons of tobacco worth an estimated 8.4 million lei.

In September 2024, two Romanians tried to smuggle more than eight tons of fine-cut tobacco, valued at 8.4 million lei, through Hungary. The Hungarian authorities discovered that the goods accompanying document was forged and that they did not have the necessary licenses. The prosecutor's office in Zalaegerszeg has charged them with fraud against the Hungarian state budget and the fine for non-payment of excise duties could reach 11.4 million lei.
