In the first summer months, Romania reported three cases of West Nile virus infection, two confirmed and one probable. The cases were recorded in the counties of Sălaj, Dolj and Vrancea, affecting people aged between 60 and 80. Experts recommend protective measures against mosquitoes, such as wearing appropriate clothing and using repellents. About 90% of those infected show no symptoms, and the virus can cause mild fever or severe forms such as meningitis.
