The High Court of Cassation and Justice decided on Thursday, September 4, unanimously (86 judges), to refer to the Constitutional Court regarding the law that modifies the pensions of magistrates. The Government's project, adopted through accountability, limits the pension to a maximum of 70% of the last net salary and sets the retirement age at 64 years over a decade. The Superior Council of Magistracy warns that the measure affects the independence of justice and contravenes the principle of separation of powers.
